Founded in 1999, as one of the original Family Resource Centers of Fresno County, Westside Family Preservation Service Network is a community based social service agency that provides assistance to residents of rural southwest Fresno County. It is a success story that is a direct result of the long-term commitment of Fresno County leadership and many community donors and volunteers. We work to connect our families to basic needs such as food, shelter, and health care, and to legal assistance when needed. We also deliver quality parenting classes, tutoring and support. The majority of our staff and Board of Directors has lived, or now lives, in Huron and knows the community well. Ours is a strengths-based approach. Every case managed family is evaluated and a plan is created with the family based upon the presence of Protective Factors and family priorities.
We are located in the center of town, accessible to all families. It is a wonderful, family-like space: welcoming and safe. In 2010, community volunteers painted it throughout with bright colors. Our volunteers take care of this with pride, for they feel that this is their space. We offer extended and weekend hours. Our services are delivered with dignity and respect in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner. The majority of the staff is bilingual in English and Spanish. Over the last year, we have delivered more than 20,000 services to more than 1,600 rural families in Huron and the surrounding areas. These services work to strengthen family resilience, the development of healthy behavior, and nurture children.
The Huron Neighborhood and Family Resource Center has worked to eliminate racial disproportionality and disparity and continues to advocate for resources to the rural families we serve.
